Have you visited Plume Estate in the Bickley Valley? If you haven’t, you should, their cellar door is beautiful. Open, light and airy, with an incredible view over the Bickley Valley. If you’re lucky you’ll get to meet resident vineyard dog Willow too! We first stopped in at Plume Estate back in 2015 on our day out with Explore Tours Perth.
Of course, you wouldn’t just visit a cellar door just for the view, the real reason is the wine! I recently visited Plume Estate for their New Vintage launch of their 2017 wines, along with a tasting of their existing range. Plume Estate has recently released their 2017 wines which include a Merlot, a Pinot Noir, a Shiraz, & a Durif. These reds join the 2017 Ladera, made from the Spanish grape Verdejo, which not to be confused with the Portuguese variety, Verdelho. Yes, they are different!.
2013 Sparkling, made from Pinot Noir grapes in a Method Traditional style. Beautiful texture, with creamy notes, along with bread, citrus & a dry finish.
2016 Rose, 100% Merlot grapes, dry style Rose (my favourite!). Intense strawberry aromas, following through on the palate. Perfect wine to sip on a warm summers day while enjoying the view.
2017 Pinot Noir, a light wine but seriously deep flavours of cherry, plum & herbaceous notes. This wine would be equally good chilled for a warm day, as it would be enjoyed on a cold winters night. I’d love to see it in a year or 2!
The release hosted by Plume Estate was fantastic, and Jim and Audrey were great hosts. We were provided with an amazing grazing table filled with cheeses, dips, breads, nuts, and other delicious accompaniments, it was beautiful! Willow was patiently supervising on what I would assume was clean up duty, ready to pick up whatever was dropped… so very helpful.
Plume Estate Vineyard is open Friday-Sunday, and has a tapas style menu to enjoy along with a glass of their great wine and that incredible view.
