One month of Travel – Our trip so far!

We’ve now been travelling for one month. Its gone so fast, and its incredible what we’ve already seen and experienced. I’m slowly writing up notes on our travel so far, but here is a little taster of what we’ve seen, done & experienced.

Cairo, Egypt – Such amazing history in everywhere we’ve been, but Egypt tops the list.  The museum & the pyramids were highlights.  We ignored all warnings about going here and I’m glad we did, I felt safer in Cairo then I did in Paris!

Everywhere, France – Paris, Loire Valley, Bordeaux, Cotes du Rhone, Burgundy & Champagne, and that’s just a brief summary!  5000kms covered over 3 weeks, including an accidental drive around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and getting stuck in a riot in Bordeaux (including riot squad, the full works!) We tried as many wines as possible, and traveled day to day without set plans.  We didn’t make any bookings for wine tours, but it turned out alright, there were plenty of places to taste in all regions.  Highlight for me was Chablis, such a stunning little village.

San Sebastian, Spain – Unfortunately we didn’t have the best weather for our day trip to this awesome location, but we made the most of it by huddling in Pintxo bars, tasting local wine, and went for a bit of a trek to explore a historic castle.

San Sebastian

Munich, Germany – We didn’t really get to see much of the city which was a shame, it seemed lovely.  We got to Oktoberfest when it opened, and left when it closed.  I don’t like beer, but the beer was amazing!  Its more than the beer though, it really is a festival and is so much fun.  I almost feel that 1 day wasn’t enough!

Venice, Italy – Again, just 1 full day due to a booking error (fault on my behalf).  We spent all day exploring this amazing city, & got lost in the maze of ‘streets’.  No cars allowed, it was amazing!  The glass work & masquerade masks were incredible.

Florence, Italy – We’ve just spent the 1 day here so far, and still have another couple of nights.  Another fabulous city, we strapped our walking shoes on and explored.  The highlight was the accidental finding of the Piazza della Signoria & Piazza Michelangelo

It goes without saying, the wines have been fantastic.  We’ve both learnt so much, and put our existing knowledge into practice.  We’ve also tried to eat as many local foods as possible, Quiche Lorraine, Escargot, & Crossants are all amazing, as is just simple pasta and sauce.  So many picnics let us try many many combinations of baguette, cheese & meat in France.  Not much beats freshly shucked oysters & a bottle of Champagne on the river… in Epernay.  This really is the trip of a lifetime!
