Lately Hungry Husband and I have spent a bit of time sampling the fantastic offerings of the Bickley Valley, and we love it every time. We were lucky enough to join Adam from Explore Tours Perth on his maiden journey for a Bickley Valley Wine tour.
We were picked up from home and had a leisurely trip out in a comfy mini van out to the valley, with the relaxing tunes of the Eagles in the background. Adam informed us of our schedule for the day, and let us know what we had to look forward to.
First stop was Fairbrossen Winery, where we were lucky enough to be served by the winemaker himself, Matthew. After pouring the perfect starting wine, a Sparkling wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon which was super easy to drink, Matt told us a bit about the vineyard and his organic vineyard methods. It was a great start, very casual tasting, with Matt answering any questions we had. We had a couple of cheese platters to snack on while tasting the wine and it was great to try the different elements of the platter with all the different wines. Our picks were the Semillion and the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Next was the very long 3 min drive to the next winery, Myattsfield Vineyard. Hungry Husband and I have been to Myattsfield several times recently, including their Long Lunch, and we can never get enough of their wine. Starting with the ever fantastic Method Champenoise, we moved through the extensive range of delicious wines.
We were starting to get peckish, and the ever popular Core Cider house was our stop for lunch. Packed as usual, we had a reserved table sheltered from the rain, next to the heater. We each got a tasting paddle of 5 different ciders, plus a bonus tasting of their cider of the month. Then came the platters of food, wedges, calamari, sliders and pies. We were stuffed after all of it, and ready to sample some more wines.
Relaxing on the couches in front of the fire, chilling out with the local wine dog, was a great spot to try the wines by Hainault Vineyard. We were fans of their Cab Sauv, buying a bottle on our previous visit.
Last, but certainly not least, was the newly opened Plume Estate. With an amazing view, and equally amazing wines, this was a perfect final stop. We were especially impressed with their Chardonnay. Another platter of incredible food to sample, I would HIGHLY recommend trying the platter if you stop in!
